I actually a really hard time finding a rice cooker recipe for this, and the while the “cooking guide” for my rice cooker did include a kalbi jjim recipe, it's entirely in korean! My korean's not that good yet.. Jisu Sunim is a meditation master from the Chogye Son Buddhist order in Korea. Anyone who has lived here during a winter doesn't need that information. For example there was a Korean Zen leader named "Seung Sahn" who founded the "Kwan Um School of Zen" which is a large global organization. My teacher, Zen Master Ko Bong, taught this way. We received a good bout of it this week. (By the way, just in case you're wondering about this “zen” business, I commented in my darkest hours of techie-related aggravation that I was trying to be zen. Korea has the coldest climate at this latitude because of Siberian winds. So, i ended up having to make my running parallel to the entire 6″ length of the rack, about 1/2″ apart (so you should fit about 3 lines going the long way). Scoring the meat will help the marinade penetrate it. Then go cross-wise, making a grid pattern of these incisions. He speaks excellent English and teaches the Zen meditation in a fresh, original and deeply inspiring way. He was known to be a frequent tea drinking companion of Dasan with whom he stayed in his youth before going on to become known as the restorer of the Korean Way of tea.
